On November 8, the "Double First-Class" Discipline Construction 2023 Dean Forum was held in Wuhan University.More than 100 experts and deans from more than 30 domestic and foreign universities and research institutions, such as Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Nankai University, Xiamen University, and the National University of Singapore, attended the forum and shared their opinions on the main tasks of how to build world-class universities and first-class disciplines in economics and management education, strengthen the construction of discipline talents, and improve professional independent innovation ability.

The Dean Forum was hosted by the School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University, and an online live broadcast channel was opened for teachers and students from other colleges to attend and study online, with nearly 3000 people watching the live broadcast.

Song Baoliang pointed out in his speech that Wuhan University was the first academic center to promote economic development thoughts, introduce western development economics, and promote the construction of development economics.In the past century, a large number of famous economists, represented by Yang Duanliu, Zhang Peigang, Dong Fuxin, and Hu Daguang, have contributed wisdom and strength to China's economic development.Standing at a new historical starting point, Chinese-style modernization has put forward new propositions for the development of economic and management disciplines. 

Nie Jun made a report on the discipline construction and development of the School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University to the participants from the aspects of the long history of the school, complete disciplines, sound organizational structure, strong teaching staff, and the highlights of first-class discipline construction, and sincerely invited scholars to have in-depth discussions on the construction of business.

After the opening ceremony, famous experts and scholars from 9 universities, including Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nankai University, etc., were invited to give keynote speeches at the conference.The keynote speech session was presided over by Professor Chen Kunting, dean of the School of Economics of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, and outstanding alumni of the School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University.

Professor Liu Shouying, secretary of the Party Committee and dean of the School of Economics of Renmin University of China, made a keynote report titled "Construction of China's Economics Autonomous Knowledge System in the Age of Digital Civilization", pointing out that the construction of China's economics autonomous knowledge system needs to be guided by the theoretical guidance of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics, and innovate by combining China's macro and micro economics, development economics and other theories, driven by big data and artificial intelligence, to achieve research method innovation.In the age of digital civilization, innovative economic theory needs to be viewed from a historical, political, social and global perspective, and to deeply consider the scientific problems such as decision-making mode under the theory, and how data and AI technology are incorporated into the production function. 

Professor Zhang Jun, Dean of School of Economics, Fudan University, shared the important viewpoint that the construction of the independent knowledge system of economic disciplines needs to continuously observe China's problems.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western countries in system and historical development, countries often choose different strategies in the process of economic development.The construction of the independent knowledge system of economic disciplines and the research and development of economics should take into account the comprehensive factors such as country, history and culture. Major strategies in China such as the South-North Water Diversion and targeted poverty alleviation also deserve in-depth study by domestic scholars.

Professor Li Wei'an, Chair Professor of Nankai University, Dean of China Corporate Governance Research Institute, and member of the Advisory Committee of School of Economics and Management, Wuhan University, presented the topic of "AI Governance and Management Talent Training". He pointed out that cultivating new management talents required for AI governance in the new development trend of the digital intelligence era has become an inevitable requirement for the digital transformation of China's economy.In the construction of "Double First-Class" disciplines in business, we should conform to the trend of the times and pay attention to cultivating digital, green, value-creating and emergency talents. 

Professor Wei Jiang, deputy secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee of Finance and Economics, vice president of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (in charge of the work), and member of the Advisory Committee of the School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University, made a report titled "Return to the scene--explore the new discipline system of economics and management", pointing out that the realistic scenarios faced by economics and management disciplines in the digital intelligence economy era have undergone fundamental changes, and the knowledge system of economics and management disciplines led by the traditional division of labor theory is backward, resulting in excessive segmentation of disciplines, excessive subdivision of specialties, and slow curriculum reform. The future discipline construction should study and judge the development pattern and future trend of economics and management disciplines from an international perspective, and layout the discipline fields, platform construction, and talent cultivation in accordance with the integration of "scientific research-education-talent".

Professor Sun Yaneng, dean of the School of Science, National University of Singapore, shared the important viewpoints of the construction of disciplinary talent team, and put forward the guiding principles for the recruitment of talents at different levels: the implementation of junior recruitment based on the existing research results, the implementation of middle-level recruitment based on whether they have high development potential, and the implementation of senior recruitment based on whether they have good research leadership ability at the peak of their career. Taking "desirable" as the basis of talent recruitment, and making it "usable" as the ultimate goal of talent recruitment. 

Professor Zhang Junsen, dean of the School of Economics, Zhejiang University, made a keynote report titled "deepening the reform of talent development system and mechanism, creating an ecosystem to stimulate the innovation vitality of talents". He shared his views on how to straighten out the evaluation system of disciplines and the implementation standards of all aspects. He believed that in the discipline construction, comprehensive consideration should be taken, and personnel reform and journal adjustment should be carefully implemented. With the comprehensive training of faculty and staff in education and teaching, academic research, student work, social service, and party and government management as the goal, the full-dimensional reward method should be implemented, a platform for teacher growth and development should be built, and the advantages of all kinds of teachers and talents should be fully played.

Professor Zheng Jianghuai, dean of the School of Economics, Nanjing University, gave a keynote report titled "melting the 'island phenomenon' in discipline construction", pointing out that the current cooperation and contact between discipline construction units are not fully developed, "data islands" hinder the development of digital economy, and "discipline islands" hinder academic development. It is necessary to strengthen the cooperation and exchanges between different universities and different colleges, avoid the phenomenon of the unstable team in a certain region, and add the channel for the improvement of talent ability at all levels.

Professor Qi Yingfei, Vice President of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, shared some thoughts on the academic development of economics. He pointed out that good economic research should be oriented to major social concerns, contribute important new knowledge and influence major national decisions. With the goal of making original theoretical contributions, they should pay attention to and study China's problems, develop appropriate methods, solve the problem of the mismatch between international academic frontiers and China's real problems, tell the stories to academic journals, government and media, and tell China's stories to the world.

Professor Zhou Yinggang, Dean of the School of Economics, Xiamen University, made a keynote report titled "Some Thoughts on the Construction of Economic Disciplines in Xiamen University". The report pointed out that discipline construction should not only condense the characteristics of the discipline, but also build a solid foundation for discipline construction. Applied disciplines must be rooted in economics, and constantly expand the subsequent development of discipline construction with theory as the cornerstone. It is necessary to take the initiative to do a good job in the layout of discipline development, vigorously promote the deep integration of economics and other disciplines, and constantly optimize the top-level design of the training mode of top-notch innovative talents.

 After the keynote speech, the conference organized four sub-forums, where the presidents and deans from Jilin University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University and other universities made thematic reports and held heated discussions on scientific research and faculty building, discipline internationalization, student cultivation and professional master's education, national strategy and think tank construction. The theme of the first sub-forum was organized scientific research and faculty building, which was hosted by Professor Wang Chunchao, Dean of the School of Economics, Jinan University.Professor Ding Yibing, Dean of the School of Economics, Jilin University, shared his attempt and thinking on organized scientific research and faculty building of the School of Economics, Jilin University;Professor Wei Long, Dean of the School of Economics, Wuhan University of Technology, introduced the universality and particularity of the path of faculty building in economic disciplines;Professor Yu Minggui, Dean of the School of Finance, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, shared the current talent introduction work and future prospects of the School of Finance from the perspectives of talent strategy, talent status and talent strategy;Professor Peng Hongfeng, Dean of the School of Finance, Shandong University of Economics and Law, took how to carry out organized scientific research as the theme, and shared the reasons, measures and difficulties of organized scientific research in social science construction combined with actual cases; Prof. Chen Shuyun, Vice Dean of School of Economics and Business Administration, Central China Normal University, shared the construction of economics and management schools in normal universities from the four aspects of status quo, measures, problems and constraints. Prof. Zhang Jun, Dean of School of Economics, Fudan University, Prof. Chen Kunting, Dean of School of Economics, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, and Prof. Sun Yaneng, Dean of School of Science, National University participated in the discussion of the first sub-forum. 

The theme of the second sub-forum was to promote the process of internationalization, which was hosted by Wang Weitong, Vice President and Dean of School of Economics, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics.Prof. Zhang Kezhong, Dean of School of Finance and Taxation, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, elaborated on the international characteristics of the School of Finance and Taxation from three perspectives: regional selection, training mode and discipline characteristics. Prof. Yu Shiwei, Dean of School of Economics and Management, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), made a presentation on the difficult exploration of the school construction process and the international training system for students, including Sino-French class, entrepreneurship master class, and domestic and foreign exchange programs. He also put forward the problems of tolerance and understanding in the process of internationalization and the contradiction of interests for participants to discuss. Prof. Lin Jianhao, Vice Dean of Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University, took the specific issue of macroeconomic expectation management as the content, and pointed out the practical value of expectation management in combination with the three major realistic backgrounds of demand contraction, supply shock and weakened expectations. Prof. Zhang Junsen, Dean of the School of Economics of Zhejiang University, Prof. Zhou Yinggang, Dean of the School of Economics of Xiamen University, and Prof. Kang Rong, Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Northwest University participated in the discussion of Sub-Forum III. 

The theme of Sub-Forum III was top-notch student cultivation and professional master's education, which was hosted by Prof. Yang Zhi, Dean of the School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Prof. Zhang Xueyong, Dean of the School of Finance of Central University of Finance and Economics, took "Digital Finance Talent Training" as the topic, emphasizing that digital finance should be used to promote the healthy development of capital market and digital technology to promote asset allocation; Prof. Chen Xiaofang, Dean of the School of Management of Wuhan University of Technology, introduced the overall idea of "1234" discipline construction; Prof. Qian Xuesong, Vice Dean of the School of Economics of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, shared the exploration and practice of top-notch economics talent cultivation in the new era; Prof. Sun Jingbing, Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Xinjiang University, shared the practical exploration of new financial and innovative talent cultivation; Prof. Deng Jian, Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Leshan Normal University, introduced the concept of new business talent cultivation and the efforts and achievements of building a first-class application-oriented school of economics and management. Professor Li Wei'an, Dean of China Corporate Governance Research Institute of Nankai University, Professor Qi Yingfei, Vice President of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Professor Li Xiaoling, Vice President of Graduate School of Chongqing University, and Professor Guo Xiaoli, Party Secretary of School of Economics and Management of Leshan Normal University participated in the discussion of Sub-Forum 3. 

The theme of Sub-Forum 4 was docking national strategy and think tank construction, which was hosted by Professor Tang Yihong, Dean of School of International Economics and Trade of University of International Business and Economics. Professor Zhao Pu, President of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, introduced the achievements of think tank construction with the topic of "Based on the positioning of economic and management disciplines, strengthening the characteristics of think tank construction"; Professor Zhang Hu, Dean of School of Statistics and Mathematics of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, proposed to drive think tank construction with data statistics, emphasizing data-driven and cross-integration-driven; Professor Li Gucheng, Dean of School of Economics and Management of Huazhong Agricultural University, introduced the achievements of developing agricultural think tanks combined with agricultural characteristics with the topic of "adhering to the four orientations, strengthening organized scientific research, and building world-class agricultural economics"; Professor Li Bo, Dean of School of Economics of South-Central University for Nationalities, introduced the achievements and efforts in ethnic economy, emphasizing the research achievements in the economic development of ethnic minority areas and the connotation of common modernization of all ethnic groups; Prof. Huang Zhuo, Vice President of Changsha Institute of Computing and Digital Economy, Peking University, proposed suggestions on the integration of industry and education and talents in the construction of think tanks, emphasizing the new requirements of the times for the construction of think tanks in universities. The focus of the work of universities is to improve the ability of universities to provide political services, straighten out the mechanism, and provide a platform for the construction of think tanks.  It is reported that the Dean Forum on the Construction of "Double First-Class" Disciplines in Business Education is one of the series of activities for the 130th anniversary of Wuhan University and the anniversary of the School of Economics and Management, and is also a high-level forum for experts in economics and management. Through this forum, it is expected to further strengthen the exchanges between Wuhan University and well-known high-level economic and management schools at home and abroad, and to lead the development and create the future together.
